Thárros Child and Youth Care Centre is a Children’s Home in Hankey, Eastern Cape, for babies and children up to the age of 12 years, who have been removed from traumatic or dangerous environments to become wards of the State. Our vision is to provide a happy, loving, secure and wholesome temporary home whilst a permanent solution is arranged for the children and wherever possible to support them on their journey towards reunification with their family. We believe there is hope and a future for every child placed in our care and we choose to focus on and build their potential and gifts rather than on the damaging experiences they have endured. See how you can get involved.
Thárros Child and Youth Care Centre was started by Thérèse Sampson (Taise), mother of 3, social worker and carer of many. After 2 years of hard work, dedication and the support of amazing family, friends, volunteers, donors and businesses, Thárros opened its doors to the first group of children in October 2017.
The name Thárros was chosen because it means ‘courage’ in Greek. The word encompasses exactly what Taise feels each person at Thárros, child and adult alike, will carry to be able to grow, to love and to nurture.
To provide a happy, loving, secure and wholesome home to children who have been removed from traumatic or dangerous environments and wherever possible to support them on their journey towards reunification with their family.
