Thárros Child and Youth Care Centre is a temporary place of safety situated in Hankey, Eastern Cape. We nurture babies and children under 12 years, who have experienced trauma, particularly that of neglect, abandonment or abuse. Our home is a beautiful double story house that immediately welcomes children into a loving, secure and wholesome environment and our team of attentive carers ensure that individual needs are met with respect. Thárros means courage in Greek and we are truly humbled by the courage we witness every day in our wards.
Thárros Child and Youth Care Centre was founded by Thérèse Sampson (Taise) in 2016. Taise is a mother of 3 and a social worker who has untold passion for children. Her dream to be “mother” to many has been boldly supported by family, friends and community. Thárros provides refuge to 25 children and services the Kouga, Koukamma and Sundays River Valley municipal areas.
To provide a happy, loving, secure and wholesome home to children who have been removed from traumatic or dangerous environments and wherever possible to support them on their journey towards reunification with their family.
