Thárros Family Centre offers a dedicated Homework Support program designed to assist students at Hankey Primary School. This initiative provides after-school tutoring, resources, and guidance to help children improve their academic performance. Our facilitators work closely with students, offering personalized support in various subjects and fostering a love for learning. By ensuring that children receive the help they need, we aim to enhance their educational outcomes and boost their confidence in their abilities.
At Thárros Family Centre, we implement the Protective Behaviours (PB) program in three primary schools in Hankey, promoting safety and empowerment for all children. Protective Behaviours introduces simple safety strategies that our trained facilitators teach to students, enabling them to identify safe and unsafe situations and develop problem-solving skills to navigate challenges when their physical or emotional safety is compromised.
The program emphasizes two key themes: “We all have the right to feel safe at all times” and “We can talk with someone about anything, no matter what it is.” Additionally, we focus on assertiveness skills, empowering children with the right to say “NO” when they feel uncomfortable or threatened.
The Teenage Pregnancy Awareness Program aims to educate high school students about the realities and challenges of teenage pregnancy.
Through engaging workshops and discussions, we provide critical information on reproductive health, contraception, and the emotional and social implications of early parenthood. The program encourages open dialogue, allowing students to ask questions and express their concerns in a safe environment. By empowering students with knowledge, we aim to foster informed decision-making and promote healthier futures for all young people in our community.
Thárros Family Centre runs a vibrant Holiday Club for primary school children during each school holiday, providing a fun and engaging environment. Over the course of one week, the program accommodates up to 100 children, offering a variety of activities designed to keep them active and entertained. Participants enjoy games, arts and crafts, sports, and educational workshops that promote social interaction and skill development. Through this initiative, Thárros fosters a sense of community and belonging among the youth in Hankey.
Our Mother2Mother support group is dedicated to providing resources and community support for new and young mothers. This program offers a welcoming environment where mothers can connect, share experiences, and receive guidance on various aspects of parenting. Through workshops on child development, health, and nutrition, we empower mothers to make informed decisions for their families. The peer support network fosters lasting relationships and resilience among participants, contributing to healthier families and a more robust community.
